AST/ALT ratio
This is a calculated ratio between two liver enzymes: AST (aspartate aminotransferase) and ALT (alanine aminotransferase). It helps evaluate liver cell damage patterns. A higher ratio may suggest alcohol-related liver disease or advanced fibrosis, while a lower or normal ratio is often seen in viral hepatitis or fatty liver disease.
- If liver disease is suspected or being monitored.
- If liver enzymes (AST or ALT) are elevated.
- If evaluating alcohol-related liver damage.
- If assessing chronic hepatitis or fatty liver disease.
